Acne scars

About This Project

Acne scarring is a common condition that results from long-lasting and uncured inflammation, with subsequent collagen degradation, dermal atrophy, and fibrosis.

Laser treatments are the most effective against acne scars as they induce the highest neocollagenesis (the stimulation of new collagen and elastin) which is required to remodel acne. Lasers use the energy of light to inflict small wounds and trigger a wound-healing process.

DiscoveryPico , Acupulse CO2, Fotona and ResurFX, all available at our Clinic are the most effective lasers to treat acne scars.

Acne is one of the ten most common diseases worldwide, affecting more than 80% of the population throughout their life. Its incidence is particularly high between the ages of 10 and 25 years, but it can affect people in any age, such as  women over 30 years old.

Acne is an inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous units, affecting areas like face, trunk and back.

Causes that can contribute to its development:

  • higher sebum production
  • keratinization anomalies
  • hormonal disturbances
  • the application of occlusive products, among others.

Absence of treatment can leave sequelae both physical (like scars) and psychological, with an important impact on self-esteem and symptoms of depression.

Therapeutic options range from creams, washing products, masks, to oral antibiotics, anti-androgens, and oral retinoids.

In order to improve the approach to this disease, we have at AVENUE CLINIC an Acne consultation with Dr. Bernardo Pimentel and Dr. Leandro Silva.
